Specialist exterior coating contractor
We survey first, then tell you the truth
National Coating Specialists is a specialist exterior building coating contractor: roofs, walls, cladding, render, gutters and brickwork. We work for commercial property owners, landlords, facilities managers, industrial sites and farms across England.
Roof, wall and cladding issues are connected, so we assess the whole building envelope, not one elevation. Then we give an honest recommendation, even when that means coating is not the right call.

An honest comparison
Coat, repair or replace?
Most contractors only sell one answer. We survey the building and recommend the route that genuinely fits, a cost-effective alternative to re-roofing where the substrate allows.
| Coat | Repair | Replace | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best when | Substrate is sound but weathered or tired | Localised damage, corrosion or failed render | The roof or cladding is beyond economic refurbishment |
| What we do | Clean, prepare and apply a specified coating system | Treat cut edges, render, masonry and details first | Advise on the right route and a reputable next step |
| Disruption | Lower, often live-site | Localised | Highest |
| Relative cost | Lowest whole-life where suitable | Variable | Highest upfront |
The difference a coating makes
From weathered and rust-streaked to clean and protected
Where the substrate is sound, a survey-led coating and respray can restore a tired building envelope without the cost and disruption of full replacement.

How it works
Our survey-led process
A simple, accountable route that protects the building and your budget.
Specialist route
Asbestos roof encapsulation, handled properly
For suitable asbestos-cement roofs, encapsulation can be a safer, lower-disruption route than removal, sealing the surface rather than stripping it. It is only recommended after a survey confirms it is appropriate.
- Suitable asbestos-cement roof and sheet surfaces, confirmed by survey
- Encapsulation-led refurbishment where appropriate
- Considered alongside roof coating and cut edge corrosion treatment

Why specify with us
Built on doing it properly
We never quote blind. Every recommendation follows a proper condition survey of the building envelope.
If coating is not the responsible answer, we say so. No one-size-fits-all sell.
We use coating systems matched to the substrate and exposure, not generic paint.

Common questions
Commercial coating FAQs
How long does a commercial roof coating last?
It depends on the system, the substrate and the exposure. A correctly specified and applied coating can protect a roof for many years, which is exactly why the survey and specification matter more than a headline figure. We will be specific about expected service life for your building after the survey.
Is roof coating worth it for a commercial building?
Where the substrate is sound, a survey-led commercial roof coating can be a cost-effective alternative to re-roofing, extending life and improving weather resistance with far less disruption. If coating is not the responsible route, we will tell you.
Can you coat an asbestos roof instead of removing it?
Often, yes. Asbestos roof encapsulation can be a safer, lower-disruption route than removal for suitable asbestos-cement roofs, but only after a proper survey confirms it is appropriate.
Which areas do you cover?
We are based in the South East and carry out commercial, industrial and agricultural coating surveys across England. See areas we cover or tell us where the building is and we will confirm.
Do you work on occupied commercial sites?
Yes. The work is planned around access, safety, programme and business continuity, so live commercial, industrial and agricultural premises can keep operating.
What is cut edge corrosion and do I need it treated?
It is rust forming at the exposed edges and laps of metal roof sheets. Left untreated it spreads. Cut edge corrosion treatment is often part of preparing a roof before coating.
Why are there no fixed prices on the site?
Access, substrate condition, preparation and repairs change the cost too much for a responsible fixed price without seeing the building. The free survey gives you a clear, specific quote.
How do I get started?
